Bangladesh film ‘Khacha’ has been selected as the country’s official entry to the foreign language category of the 90th Academy Awards.

The film had a limited six-screen release in Bangladesh on September 22.

Akram Khan’s ‘Khacha’ was produced by Impress Telefilms and will be considered for nomination to the 90th edition of the Academy Awards in the US next year.

‘Khacha’ is set in 1947. The story follows the plight of a Hindu family in East Pakistan moving to India.

The film’s cast includes names such as Joya Ahsan, Azad Abul Kalam and Mamunur Rashid.

Bangladesh has submitted entries to the annual Oscar ceremony since 2002. However, the country has yet to secure a nomination.
